Star Trek, Twilight Zone and Battlestar Galactica actress Arlene Martel has sadly passed away.

Sad news today. Arlene Martel, a recognisable face to Star Trek, The Twilight Zone and Battlestar Galactica fans, has passed away at the age of 78.

The actress died from heart attack complications at a health centre on Tuesday, reports have said.

Martel was best known for playing a prospective bride to Leonard Nimoy’s Spock in the Star Trek episode Amok Time, an episode well-remembered for giving fans a rare glimpse at Vulcan and featuring a full-on fight between Kirk and Spock.

Fondly remembering his would-be on-screen wife’s acting skills, Leonard Nimoy took to Twitter: “Saying goodbye to T’Pring, Arlene Martel. A lovely talent,” he wrote.

Previously speaking of her time on the show, Martel said that “I was just so happy to be working and playing a part that was so challenging,” before adding that “I had no idea it would continue to this day. Fans purchase my Star Trek photos at conventions, where I sign autographs. I had no idea that T’Pring would be so memorable to people.”

As well as the sci-fi shows mentioned, Martel leaves a wide-ranging filmography featuring Columbo, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Untouchables and, most recently, A Walk To Remember. Our thoughts go out to those close to her.
