American Horror Story: Coven first pictures and plot details
The countdown to American Horror Story: Coven has begun. Here's a look at what the new season has in store...
American Horror Story's third run is taking its particular blend of genre spookiness back to the nineteenth century, with witchcraft-focussed season Coven.
In addition to a first look at Kathy Bates and Angela Bassett's period characters - sadistic slave owner Madame Delpine Lalaurie and voodoo witch Marie Laveau respectively - there's a new poster and fresh plot details for the season below.
Jessica Lange, a mainstay of the American Horror Story cast plays a modern witch named Fiona, descended from Salem casters, who returns home following the murder of a young Salem witch. Other regular Sarah Paulson plays Cordelia, Fiona's daughter, and the headmistress witch school Miss Robichaux's Academy for Exceptional Young Ladies. Going by the creepy snake-vomiting, black magic and torture posters already released for the series, the whole magic school thing may sound cosy and Hogwarts-ish, but we wouldn't expect too much crossover with Harry Potter or The Worst Witch there.
When a clan of voodoo witches threaten the school, Fiona and her daughter must decide whether to fight or negotiate peace. Playing students at the school are Emma Roberts, Gabourey Sidibe, Taissa Farmiga and Jamie Brewer. The series is expected to blend time periods from the modern day, to the seventies, to the 1830s.
American Horror Story returns to FX on Wednesday the 9th of October at 10pm.
