American Horror Story season 3 ordered

Thirteen more episodes of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck's anthology series, American Horror Story, will be with us next autumn...

This is the kind of news we love reporting. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck's inventive, experimental, and intensely stylish show, American Horror Story, is confirmed to be returning for a new series next autumn.

Currently in its second season, Asylum (each series tells a stand-alone story in a new setting with recurring actors taking different parts), American Horror Story has satisfied the ratings mongers and received an order from FX for thirteen further episodes. The even better news is that Jessica Lange - one of the best things about the current creepy sixties-set season - is set to return once again.

Here's what FX President, John Landgraf had to say on the recommission:

“With American Horror Story: Asylum, Ryan and Brad have raised the bar in every way from Murder House, the first American Horror Story miniseries, and their original idea—the notion of doing an anthological series of miniseries with a repertory cast—has proven groundbreaking, wildly successful and will prove to be trendsetting. We can’t wait to see what deviously brilliant ideas they come up with for their third miniseries.”

Good news! Enjoying the current series immensely.

Wonder which sub genre they'll explore next time round? Cabin in the Woods?

I would say Body Snatcher but there seems to be an element 50s Alien Invasion developing in the current series.

I'm finding this series of AHS has really dropped in quality. The emotional complexity of the first season meant that the horror clichés were often approached in new & challenging ways. Asylum hasn't even come close to that yet. After predicting the horror twist at the end of episode 3 I realized I was starting to get bored & haven't started episode 4 yet.

That said, I'm glad it's been renewed. I hope series 3 will see them return to interesting & challenging storytelling, rather than running through tired horror clichés with no real twists or complexity.

While AHS is ridiculously over-the-top and kind of offensive at times, I cannot stop watching it. Not to mention, it is definitely the most visually arresting shows on television right now. And the fact that this season has both aliens and demonic possession is kind of blowing my mind.
