Kyle MacLachlan has a key role in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. series 2, which hits screens next month…

Warning: this article may contain spoilers for future episodes of Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Get your lanyards ready and prepare yourself to resist touching Lola, because Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns next month. The US premiere date for season two of Marvel’s opinion-splitting television project has also been confirmed as September 23. Whether the show will remain at Channel 4 in the UK remains to be seen.

In casting news, experienced actor Kyle MacLachan (Twin Peaks' Agent Cooper and How I Met Your Mother’s The Captain) has joined the show in a key role. A role we’re surprised Marvel wanted to reveal in advance, to be honest. Don’t read beyond this meme if you want to go in completely cold.

Still here? Okay. We can confirm, right from the horse’s mouth, that Kyle MacLachlan will be playing Skye’s father in the show. Given that the identity of said parentage was a major plot point in season one, and one of the show’s central myseries, it seems like an odd thing for Marvel to reveal in a press release.

However, Marvel didn’t divulge a name (or a species) for the character, so most fan theories (which often feature aliens and/or established characters from S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel lore as potential parents) are still possible. He could be under heavy make-up, after all.

If season two of the show is anything like the first, don’t expect any actual answers for quite a while. More news on the show as we hear it.
