Goodfellas TV show going into development

AMC adds Goodfellas TV series to network roll call of Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead

The idea of a Goodfellas TV adaptation was first circulated a couple of years back and now AMC, the home of Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, has signed on to develop the series.

The success of Boardwalk Empire, about to go into its third season, may have had something to do with AMC taking on a period mob offering of its own to rival the HBO show.

One very good sign is that Scorsese’s co-writer Nicholas Pileggi, on whose book the original film was based, has agreed to co-write the first script of the Goodfellas show with Homicide: Life on the Street’s Jorge Zamacona.

There’s no word as yet on what Scorsese’s involvement, if any, will be but following the director’s latest technological plaything, perhaps he could be tempted to guest direct an episode in 3D?

So that’s three major roles and some big mob shoes to fill, let the casting speculation begin...
