The Sarah Jane Adventures: second series confirmed

Good news! The terrific Doctor Who spin-off, starring the equally great Elisabeth Sladen, is getting a second series!

Published on Feb 6, 2008

The finest Doctor Who spin-off to date has been the recipient of some good news in the light of the Grange Hill cancellation announcement (the BBC, cunningly, did them both at the same time), and that’s that The Sarah Jane Adventures has earned itself a second series.

This is smashing news, say we, not least because it’s the show that for us have proven to be the most interesting, and let’s face it, best, of the all the shows to spin out of Doctor Who over the years.

Sure, we quite like Torchwood, and we can even tolerate a quick snap of K9 & Company if we’re in the mood, but The Sarah Jane Adventures is a show worth catching and one not seen by enough people. At least people over 10. The thought of more of it is a very good thing.

It’s nice too that the show has been a ratings success. It is, to date, the highest rated programme to appear on the CBBC channel in its history, and its BBC One run also brought in a fair few viewers. It’s also welcoming for long time Who fans to see one of  the finest assistants that the show has served up being put in the limelight, and showing many of the modern day pretenders how it’s done.

To celebrate, why not check out our interview with Elisabeth Sladen? You can't blame us for trying...
