Doctor Who series four news latest

Den of Geek digs out the latest titbits surrounding the upcoming fourth season of Doctor Who.

Published on Feb 6, 2008

As we prepare for the Doctor Who juggernaut to spark into life as we get closer to the Easter premiere of series four, there are still a few little nuggets of news to keep us busy. Such as these:

* Producer Phil Collinson is leaving the show after four series, to go and set up a new drama hub for the BBC in Manchester. Russell T Davies has described him as “the secret hero of Doctor Who”. He’s the second producer to leave the series in advance of its fifth series, and rumours are that Russell T Davies will now be staying on the show for a little longer than originally planned.

* Over in the States, it’s been confirmed that the SciFi channel will be broadcasting the fourth series from April, which tallies with the usual end of March start date over here.

* The Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned, has been set for DVD release. The episode will arrive on the usual bare-bones release (in advance of the special features-laden boxset at the end of the year) on 10th March.

* A trailer for the fourth season has been running in cinemas across the UK in advance of the likes of Cloverfield. The trailer features Freema Agyeman, Catherine Tate, Billie Piper and some giant wasp thing, among other bits and bobs. We’re curious as to why they need to splash the cash to promote the show in this way, given the rabid anticipation of series four. But hey! That’s why they’re the BBC, and we’re interweb monkeys!

That’s it for now. But, as we said, expect the explosion of Who news to begin proper in the weeks ahead….
