Primeval: want to make some animals?

Primeval season three has been confirmed - and they want you to make the monsters. Or something.

There will be more action! There will be more monsters! There will be more Primeval! So celebrates the latest press release to land on the Den Of Geek Instant Press Release Bullshit Detector.

However, in amongst all the hyberbole, written presumably by someone who hasn’t watched too much, er, Primeval, there’s a challenge to the viewers. Namely, design and submit a futuristic creature in an online competition.

Is ITV really that hard up? And doesn’t this sound like one of the Saw movies where most of the ideas seemed to be thought up by the viewers, rather than the programme makers? Cynicism aside, here are the necessary bits, excised from the press release for your reading delight:

“With the project due to go back into production later this year viewers can have their say on what the group will be fighting as Impossible Pictures and itv.com invite fans of the show to create their own monster.

Between 29th Jan and 7th April viewers will be able to submit their futuristic creature ideas to an online competition. The winner will see their design brought to life on screen for the team from the ARC to fight in one episode in Series Three. Fans should keep an eye on www.itv.com/primeval for full details of the contest.”

We don’t mind Primeval, to be fair, but we know what it is and we know what it isn’t. We loved the quote from Laura Mackie, ITV’s Director of Drama, though: “Primeval just keeps going from strength to strength with audiences really taking the team to their hearts. The fact that they are now being given the chance to design one of the monsters for the team to battle is incredibly exciting and will put viewers right at the heart of the action.”
