Lost: back on January 31st

ABC's Lost is set to commence its fourth season in the States at the end of January - but will it sort itself out?
Published on Dec 18, 2007
Lost won back some favour with its surprise ending at the conclusion to season three, but it’s nonetheless clearly lost some of its momentum, and certainly large chunks of goodwill. Frustration began to seriously eclipse intrigue during the third season, not least when ABC confirmed that there were three more seasons to follow, leaving us just over half way through the show’s story arc. That said, seasons have been cut down to a smaller number of episodes, and they’ll theoretically be running in a single block, rather than the erratic broadcasting pattern of old.
Currently, there are believed to be eight completed episodes of Lost in the can, and there is a real threat that if the writers’ strike continues much further into next year that the show will end up being interrupted anyway. We’ll wait and see on that one, but feel free to add this writer’s name to the list of people keen to see Lost start answering some of the questions it poses, and keen to see it recapture what made it intriguing in the first place.

Personally, I felt that Season 3, particularly the latter half, was the strongest that show had been since the early days of Season 1, and began answering questions and ramping up the intrigue in new and exciting ways, rather than retreading old ground unnecessarily. In my opinion, Lost is still the best sci-fi/fantasy show on TV and I cannot wait for Season 4.
