@Discrespective - if you use that logic, then VOTD was just a copy of season 3's 42, which itself was just a copy of Davison era's Earthshock, which was just a copy of... you get the picture - there are a lot of spaceships in DW - sometimes they crash - doesn't mean each time is a copy of the previous one.

There's always more space crashes at Christmas time. It's all the Eggnog.

Looks awful. I'll think I'll rewatch 'the Next Doctor' instead.

Now The Next Doctor was awful. other than The Beast Below, I haven't been disappointed by a Steven Moffat script yet, I'm sure enough it's gonna be awesome

I'm confused how is this anything like Voyage of the Damned?? Rory and Amy are on board a crashing spaceship yes, its space ships crash like all the time, but what about the monsters in the fog? And Scrooge? It sounds nothing like VOTD. And yes the next doctor, despite the boy being kidnapped/father going mental plot having potetional it failed epicly in its exuction. Has no one else spotted the monster in the fog... what is it a shark? a dolphin? Oh god please let it be the piranhas again!!!

Is it just my eyes or is the doc actually floating outside the window? He's not standing on it as far as i can see. Wow, a flying doctor, maybe The Moff has gone all out and declared him Santa!? I'm looking forward to it anyway, cried too much at last years xmas specials. We need fun :)

Ahhhhhh yeah man ... what I mean guys, I'm getting into specifics here, ( Stephen Moffat pisses me off ) The Voyage of the Dammned, that already had a crashing space cruise liner in it ! Not a spaceship like in 42 or an intergalatic imperial battle cruiser like in Earthshock but a crashing space cruise liner !!! I know Paulychild having seen most of Dr Who episodes like you, that you are right and I'm not gonna argue, that alot of Dr Who stories copy off one another but shit, still bro, two crashing space cruise liners in two seperate christmas stories, three years apart ? Yeah, Please !!! I feel like I'm stuck on that cargo ship that The Third Doctor materialises on, that's caught in an endless continious time loop, in Carnival Of Monsters after reading that ... ;-)

Again yes crashing space ship but it doesn't sound a thing like the awful VOTD? Oh wait yeah I remeber there being something in the fog on VOTD and Scrooge and the Doctor not actually being on the ship but trying to alter time to stop whatever happens on it, yeah I remeber all this from VOTD. Clearly this was just a chance for you to "moan about Moffat for any given reason". And even if this is awful all the christmas specials since the second one have been (Even End Of Time, far too many plot holes and a story far too ludricous, Master regenerating by a "magical potion" durrr. the Doctor falling from that height from a MOVING spaceship and not dieing WTF????? And this is all before I get to the planet of the Master...), so nothing new, nothing gained and nothing lost

Lets watch the episode first people and then decide.I guess Moff hate doesent even need an episode broadcasted now. I have to agree though with Codgin .Since the Christmas invasion, all the Christmas specials have hardly set the world alight. With last years "epic" being a hollow, convoluted mess. A true RTD turkey with all the trimmings.

Oh man, I can't believe I missed this post. I've been checking Den of Geek every day since "The Big Bang" aired waiting for official news on the Christmas special. Finally! First impression: OH MY GOD IS THAT A MOTHER FLIPPING SHARK IN SPACE? I haven't felt this excited since I finished downloading the series 5 finale two weeks before it's Australian air-date. Can't wait!

First promo pics and official synopsis for Doctor Who Christmas special

Simon Scrooge

The BBC has released the first promotional images from Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol. And there’s a quick outline of what to expect, too…

Last week, in case you missed it, we had the very first trailer from Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol, this year’s Yuletide special of the show. Penned by Steven Moffat, you can see the trailer right here, in case you missed it.

Following that, and on the back of the BBC’s Christmas programming announcement that we reported yesterday, the Beeb has now also released promotional imagery from the episode. And what’s more, we have the following synopsis, too.

“Amy and Rory are trapped on a crashing space liner, and the only way The Doctor can rescue them is to save the soul of a lonely old miser, in a festive edition of the time-travelling adventure, written by Steven Moffat. But is Kazran Sardick, the richest man in Sardicktown, beyond redemption? And what is lurking in the fogs of Christmas Eve?

Amy Pond is played by Karen Gillan, Rory Williams by Arthur Darvill, The Doctor by Matt Smith and Kazran Sardick by Michael Gambon.”

The episode goes out, as you might expect, on Christmas Day. And we’ll have more information and details on it closer to transmission…
