Doctor Who: has Sir Ben Kingsley turned down Davros?

Hurray! More Doctor Who tabloid casting rumours! And this one's from the best newspaper in the world, it seems...

So the tabloid obsession with Doctor Who bumbles on, and this time it’s The Daily Express – the one that laughably, bills itself as ‘The World’s Greatest Newspaper’ – that has been spouting out the rumours. Yet one interesting strand it picked up on was the casting – or otherwise – of Ben Kinglsey.

The rumours surround the three special episodes that are being made for broadcast in 2009, to fill the gap while the show has otherwise a year-long break. And according to the story, the producers are trying to get some big names in there to, presumably, help flog the episodes to the States while continually trying to erode the sheer Britishness of it all.

Among the names that The World’s Greatest Newspaper cites as having turned the Who team down are Gary Oldman and Dennis Hopper. But the article also mentions Ben Kingsley, who is widely assumed to be taking the role of Davros come the end of next year’s season four.

Of course, the Kingsley story was never confirmed, so that’s one thing. Another is that The World’s Greatest Newspaper’s report was specific to the three special episodes, and thus the casting of the fourth season wasn’t mentioned. And the third thing is that the tabloids are happily trading any Who news they can find right now.

We still suspect that Sir Ben might be leading the Daleks come next summer, but we also hope that the thirst for Hollywood stars dampens down soon.

What next? Jack Bauer popping up in the Tardis?

I think Sir. Ben should just reprise Don Logan, his Sexy Beast character, in Who . Now that's frightening...
