Doctor Who season four: Jack confirmed, and Lily Allen?
Simon Brew
More news from the fourth season of Doctor Who! Not all of it good!
Published on Nov 15, 2007
So desperate, it seems, are the Doctor Who team keen to shoehorn in celebrities, that there’s a sporting chance that a few years’ in the future there’ll be a reality TV version of the show. Now sure, Derek Jacobi is welcome any time he likes, but Peter Kay? Even Simon Pegg? These weren’t exactly raging successes, were they? And we’ve got Kylie at Christmas too – who knows how that’s going to work out?
Well, next on Russell T Davies’ casting couch could perhaps be Lily Allen if the latest rumours are to be believed. Allen – loudmouth, daughter of Keith, and singer – is reported to be in negotiations with the BBC for a role in the currently-shooting fourth season of the revived Who, or perhaps beyond that. There’s even a rumour she may be a future assistant to the Doctor.
We suspect, nay hope, that this one is bullshit. After all, how many music stars can one Doctor travel with? Kylie and Billie so far. We’d suggest Nana Miskouri or Margarita Pracatan ourselves, with the Scissor Sisters reworking the theme tune. But that’s perhaps why we’re not in charge.
In other Who news, John Barrowman has confirmed he's returning appearance as Captain Jack Harkness in the next season of the show. He’s widely rumoured to be teaming up for an end-of-season battle with Davros.
There’s no word from the Beeb on the Lily Allen story. Let’s hope it stays that way.

I can see Lily Allen as a Dr Who bad guy, something akin to this
Pig Creature
This ordinary Earth pig was augmented and strapped into a spaceship before being launched into space. After a brief flight this vessel plunged back to Earth, taking out Big Ben before crashing into the Thames and exposing the existence of extra-terrestrials to the British public. The pig was quickly dragged out of the wreckage by the authorities and prepared for an autopsy while other, real-life aliens profited from the confusion..then went onto have a dead end pop career thanks to the power of social networking sites..

The celebrity thing is only a hold-over from the 80s, where the show was a kind of dole for resting actors (like The Bill became later) - they certainly wouldn't have got Ben Kingsley back then.

Oh ferchrissakes Martin... Ben Kingsley'd turn up to the opening of your mail in the morning, for a fee - at least it seems so.
Since he sold his soul for that Sky Movies ad campaign, he's taken some right shite; Thunderbirds, BloodRayne, Lucky Number Slevin, Jacka-fucking-nory... Seem 'em all, of course :-)

John - oh dear, I've not seen Sky of the other films you mentioned and hope Thunderbirds was a one-off aberration.
