It's fair to say that the news coming out of Doctor Who season four hasn't set the world alight thus far. Catherine Tate's casting in particular has been a bone of contention that presents the new series with a challenge right from the off, while the news that season five wouldn't follow for a further two years was also a bit of a blow.

So how about some good news, then? Firstly, the BBC has released the first shot of the updated Sontarans, and it's good stuff. No unnecessary messing around, and it's hard to believe that it's The Young Ones' Christopher Ryan who will slipping into the costume of the Sontaran leader. A classic villain revived with no postmodern trappings. We'll take that.

Also, notice something else about that photo? Yep, Martha Jones is in there, meaning the news that she wouldn't be appearing until the very end of the series is looking false, and that she may be playing a more prominent role in the series instead. It does add some fuel to the theory that the reveal at the end of the series will be the return of Rose as well Davros, too.

Furthermore, there's a quiet little rumour doing the rounds about Steven Moffat's two-parter for the next series. Virtually every fan of Doctor Who seems to think that Moffat's stories have consistently been top-notch, so excitement was high anyway. But there's talk that he may revive the old-style Cyberman - rather than the new models designed by Trigger from Only Fools and Horses in series two - replete with their old style look. Excited? We just hope that of all the rumours we've heard about the series thus far that this is the one that comes true.
