Heroes: Origins dead?
Simon Brew
The planned Heroes spin-off show has been put on hold - but will it ever come back, we wonder?

Firstly, the reaction to the second series has thus far been underwhelming, with criticism of the plotlines being matched by ratings that aren't meeting with expectations. Mix that in with a forthcoming writers' strike in America, and the casualty of it all appears to be the planned Heroes: Origins spin off series.
This was to be a six-episode spin off that was planned to sit in the mid-season break for the main show proper. Heroes: Origins was set to explore the stories of six new Heroes, one of whom would then be included in the third run of the main Heroes programme (chosen by Internet vote). We'd previously reported that names such as Eli Roth and Kevin Smith were set to get involved in the project.
NBC, though, has now postponed production of the series, and aren't being particularly forthcoming with new dates. This has led to specualtion that Heroes: Origins has gone off the radar forever, although there is discussion that it may come back at a later point. Nobody is confirming that, of course, and we wouldn't be surprised to see this one quietly slip away.
For now, however, it remains to be seen if the second series of Heroes can dig itself out of the rut. We remain hopeful.

Personally, I've been loving Season 2 so far. It started off droopy, and Hiro's storyline has been rubbish, which is a shame because he was the best character in Season 1!
Claire's love interest is plain and boring too. Apart from that though, Matt has had an amazing plot line, and HRG has been KICKING ASS. New folk aren't terrible either.
All in all, I'm pretty happy with season 2. But I don't think Origins is dead. Soon as the writers strike is over they'll do a budget to see what they can afford. If it still fits then they'll do it.

Lots of things start out good but then make me lose interest the longer they continue (See Reaper).
