The Mysterious Cities Of Gold: on DVD in 2008!
Simon Brew
This will be a day long remembered. It is the day that Den Of Geek found out that The Mysterious Cities Of Gold is coming to DVD. Simon is very, very happy.
How about this for a piece of news to justify the existence of the whole DVD format?
After years of only being able to buy a French-language DVD release of one of the finest children's television programmes of all time (or some dodgy discs on eBay), it's now been confirmed that The Mysterious Cities Of Gold will be coming to DVD in 2008! In English! With extras! Shag my shoes!
This is a marvellous moment. Future generations will celebrate it.
The DVD is being produced by Fabulous Films, and on their website - you'll find it here - they have a submission form where you can submit extras for the forthcoming DVD release. Frankly, we'd just be happy to have thing digitally cleared up, in English, and with a karaoke version of the theme tune, the majesty of which we've already covered here.
To celebrate this epic and defining moment in the history of the digital versatile disc - and we'll keep you posted as new information emerges - we headed straight off to YouTube, and discovered that one fine user has uploaded this quite brilliant clip. For those of us who avidly watched children's BBC in the 1980s, you'll remember the Broom Cupboard. And, at the end of epic TV programmes, a mini-tradition seemed to start where the occupant of the Broom Cupboard would sing along with the end credits.
So here, ladies and gentlemen, is Phillip Schofield - long before his Joseph coat - singing the theme tune to The Mysterious Cities Of Gold.
You don't get shit like this on CBeebies...

Re: The Mysterious Cities Of Gold: on DVD in 2008!I own every episode in english after many years trying to source them. It is even better to watch than I remember as a child. Cartoons these days are not the same calibre as they were then. Have also created a fan group for them so please check it out here
