The torturously tough TV quiz returns

Gaye Birch

Our tough-as-old-boots TV quiz is back! And we bet you can't answer all of these...

Published on Jul 27, 2010

Like TV? Like it a lot? Then you may have watched enough to play our torturous telly quiz, which is back to help you kill time and flex your telly trivia knowledge with another collection of shows and stars.

See how many actors and shows you can identify from the picture and word clues we've grouped by shared subjects.

If you want to try this quiz independently, don't scroll as far as the comments, because there are a lot of clever people among Den Of Geek readers, who are up before the birds and the worms, and who answer some of our quizzes correctly very early on in the day.

We'll post the answers and revealing images on Friday and link to them through this page. So, check back then to see how you did.

UPDATE 30 July: We've added links to the answers below each quiz entry. There's enough space between entries on the answer page that you should be able to find the solution to one question without revealing the others, so you can continue to try and solve the rest, if you're subborn... or enjoy headaches.

1. Role reversals

These two actresses shared close confines with a mostly male cast in the first instance (top two images), and went on to star and co-star in other roles where they swapped their authoritative and medical careers (bottom two images).

Neither learned their lesson about romantic involvement with co-workers, though.

1a. Can you  name the show these ladies did acting time together on, and what were their roles?

1b. What shows are they appearing in now?

ANSWER

2. TV Exes

This actress played the girlfriend of at least two flat sharing men, and even though the first resulted in a (sort of) marriage (top image), neither relationship endured.

The men seemed oblivous to her carelessness with their affections, being blinded by her striking blonde good looks, leaving them to imagine (sort of) healthier relationships (bottom image).

The lady is a serial heartbreaker, having dated men from at least three countries in two shows on both sides of the Atlantic.

2a. What's the name of the actress and the shows she's pictured in?

ANSWER

This actor never seemed to last with the brunette women in his life.

To one (top image), he was a bad boyfriend, stuck between obsolete technology and urban myths.

To the other (bottom image) he was a good boyfriend, but her life was too chaotic for romance, though they met up again, but with disastrous end results.

2b. Name the actor, the shows, and the character names he's played. (Extra kudos if you can name the technology and the creatures he believes exist. )

ANSWER

3. Stuck in a rut roles

This actor did a guest appearance on a now-dead show where his violent reactions lead to a very soulful learning experience (top image).

He appeared again in a few episodes of another show that found its finish recently, again in a very violent role culminating in a cold climated sequence (bottom image).

3a. Name the actor and the shows to which we've referred.

ANSWER

Luckily for TV fans, this well known big screen actor does pop up on small screens from time to time.

Also known for extremely violent roles, he once made a memorable, heady trip across an arid plain with a reptile, in a show so well conceived, scripted and performed, it must make mediocre actors and writers weep into their mugs and slankets every week it's shown (top image).

He did another recent stint in a brief appearance on another show we like, as a leader of a gang of violent men on the sun-scorched streets of a seductive city (bottom image).

3b. Name the actor and the two shows pictured.

ANSWER

4. Home improvement roles

Before this actor shared a decent two-bedroom flat (bottom image), he lived in much more cramped quarters for a time, all because of a swinging obsession (top image).

4. Can you name the actor, the vehicle in which he guest starred and his current starring role in a US show with universal ideas?

ANSWER

5. Finally, for a full, awe-inspiring demonstration of your telly viewing powers: two actors pictured on this page have a connection to two actresses also shown. Name the actors, actresses and their shared association in a single show.

ANSWER

Good luck and, if you find it too hard, we recommend less work and more TV viewing. Priorities. Gotta have 'em.

Can I beat your quiz? No. And that's the only question I can answer correctly :-)

I can only recognise Angel Batista in Dexter, so the character referred to must be LaGuerta who also played in....was it Oz? The rest I don't know. I've also forgotten their real names.

Massive respect to anyone who can answer even one of these questions... It's a lot better than I can do!

I think 2a is Rachel Blanchard in Peep Show and Flight of the Conchords.

I think 2b is Dean Winters as Dennis Duffy in 30rock & Charlie in TTSCC.
