Doctor Who series 5: the brand new trailer

The brand new trailer for the upcoming fifth series of Doctor Who, starring Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, is right here...

At the end of the press screening of Doctor Who: The Eleventh Hour on Thursday night (our spoiler-free review is here), the latest trailer for the show was screened. And it's that trailer that's now been formally released by the BBC.

So here it is, complete with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and some familiar foes. Enjoy...!

Doctor Who returns to BBC One from Saturday April 3rd.

absolutely stunning! But this trailer features footage from the finale... No other launch trailer has done that!

Darlek with a Union jack symbol on it... cyberman with one arm.. Looks like moffats gonna be keeping us on our toes XD

That does look fantastic. The single Darlek shot is almost enough to wipe out memories of the dreadful master control console for all Darleks in Journey's end, or the penis-headed monstrosity of the Evolution of the Darleks.

Looks like the new series will be transmitted from 6.20pm to 7.20pm... The same initial timeslot for the child friendly Adipose episode that opened series 4 in 2008.

This looks as if it could be the Doctor Who I've been waiting for. Apart from a handful of episodes, I've found much of the recent series lacking in substance. Doctor Who has so much untapped potential, I feel this could be the best yet. Go Moffat, go!

i hope the cybermen are the real cybermen. i am tired of the parallel universe ones keep showing up. they keep saying it is sealed up give us the original Cybermen

Parts of the two part finale for Series Two appeared in the trailer for that series (and endlessly on the red button :)). Just to point out the trailer featured here is not quite the same as the one currently being shown on UK television - no gun-toting Doctor on air :)
