New Battlestar Galactica spin-off planned?

SyFy is considering a new BSG spin-off show, has continued high hopes for Caprica, and orders up a pilot for a new superhero show…

SyFy, for we have finally resigned ourselves to calling it by its silly new name, has revealed that there are plans afoot for a brand new spin-off series from Battlestar Galactica.
As reported over at The Hollywood Reporter, SyFy’s vice president of development Mark Stern has firstly defended the thus-far middling-at-best performance of Caprica, arguing that “We have a lot of hope for that show. The (DVR data) has been very promising and growing week after week. The ratings don't reflect the potential audience.”
He then went on to say, “We’re looking for other ways to spin off ‘Battlestar’ beyond ‘Caprica’. That world is so rich. We’re sitting down with Ron Moore and his team. It would not necessarily be a traditional series.”
While we’re not averse to further adventures in the Battlestar Galactica universe, it does of course lead to the feeling that SyFy is going back to the same well on more than one occasion for its ideas. That said, as long as Ronald Moore is involved, it’s hard to grumble about it.
The network has also become the latest to greenlight a pilot for a superhero show too. Just yesterday, we were reporting that Summer Glau had signed up for The Cape, and SyFy’s follows the theme for underpowered superheroes.
The show is called Three Inches, and its central character is a superhero who has the power to shift things with his mind alone, but only for a distance of - yup! - three inches. He then groups together with a series of other heroes, each of whom have suitably unimpressive abilities. It could be great. It could be terrible. Time will tell...
More news on these projects is expected shortly. In the meantime, here’s the story at The Hollywood Reporter.
