Doctor Who series 5: American airdate confirmed
Simon Brew
We're still awaiting the official announcement of the UK start date, but we now know when the next series of Doctor Who will kick off in the States...
Published on Feb 25, 2010
While we await official confirmation of the start date for Matt Smith’s maiden run as Doctor Who, news from America is that the show will start its fifth revived series over there on Saturday April 17th. Variety confirmed the news, and the show will – as usual – be screening on BBC America.
The current running favourite for UK transmission is Saturday 3rd April, although that’s not been confirmed yet. What we do know is that the show will return with an hour-long episode, The Eleventh Hour, and with the US date now confirmed, the revealing of the UK start date is surely very close.
Here’s the story at Variety.

My friend in the US has been screwed by all the changes. The move to BBC America has screwed her, but SyFy have second air rights. Only Comcast have moved that to digital now to force people to pay more to go digital.
So I'm making DVD's of the show for her. Not letting a fellow Whovian miss out!
Very excited for the show to come back.

As an American Who fan this annoys me I am not one of the 15 people in this country who gets BBC America I watched Doctor Who on Sci-fi. Guess I have to make friends with someone with a better cable package than me

Yeah, I'm not one of the lucky folks who have BBCA either... so usually I find the episode in question streaming online the day it's released in the UK. Sidereel.com usually does pretty well, even with some hi-quality transfers.
