David Tennant’s US pilot not being picked up?

Simon Brew

The pilot episode of Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, starring David Tennant, doesn’t look like it’s getting a full season order from NBC…

Published on Jan 25, 2010

At the end of 2009, David Tennant was over in the States filming the pilot episode of a new drama entitled Rex Is Not Your Lawyer for NBC. The show, which has been in development for a couple of years, is about a litigator who suffers panic attacks, and there was an element of trying to get Tennant to enjoy the crossover success that Hugh Laurie had enjoyed with House in the US.

However, it seems like the pilot might not be being picked up. NBC has, according to Entertainment Weekly, ordered that the sets to the show be taken down. That said, they're not being destroyed and are being stored in case the show gets a pick up for the end of the year.

But the signs aren't looking too strong at the moment, and NBC is likely to weigh up its options and other pilots ahead of giving Rex the nod. A pity.

Here's the Entertainment Weekly story.

Thats a very strange article from EW it's not really saying anything new.. The sets would come down if they're not being used again for months wouldn't they- if it's picked up for autumm there won't be any filming till later this year..? Anyway heres hopeing we see Rex sometime in 2010 :)

First off, "Rex Is Not Your Lawyer" is a bad title. It's an interesting title, and different - and therefore, it's a bad title and that was a strike against it already. Second, it's an NBC pilot. Therefore, if it was a good script/pilot, then you can forget about it. If NBC has already struck the sets, it's gone. Finis. NBC might possibly want the sets for another series, such as "Law & Order: Phoenix". I'm not worried about David Tennant finding other work. The man is stuffed chock full of talent.

Headache211 na the sets would be of no use to other shows surely-if it was a hospital or store setting maybe but the sets for Rex are probably Rex's office and home -and other rooms that have to be distinctive to the show .. That the setrs have been taken down rather than be left for use by other programmes shows Rex is under consideration for autumn imo .. This story from EW really is not new news. All they're saying is Rex has not been picked up for NBC's spring programmes -but we knew that a while back and the show was never likely to be ready for spring imo-far to big a ask to have the show ready in such a short time ..
