From Doctor Who To JJ Abrams’ Undercovers

The latest casting news for JJ Abrams’ upcoming television project gives a massive break to a British actress best known for Spooks and Doctor Who…
Published on Jan 13, 2010
With Lost coming to an end this year, and Alias already many years behind him, JJ Abrams is setting up a new television project at NBC by the name of Undercovers. It was announced a little while ago, and it basically takes the concept of something like Mr and Mrs Smith, given that it's about a pair of married spies.
We knew that one half of that marriage was being played by Nboris Kodjoe, best known for Soul Food. But the Mrs Bloom to his Mr Bloom (for that is what the characters are called)? That's none other than Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Mbatha-Raw may not be a name familiar to many right now, but chances are you've seen her work. She played Martha Jones' sister, Tish, in Doctor Who, and appeared in Spooks' fifth series as Jenny. Less fortunately, she also played Viv in Bonekickers. But like many, we don't talk about Bonekickers unless we have to.
It's a massive break for the actress, and hearty congratulations to her. What's more, she's going to be being directed by a popular director right now, given that Abrams has confirmed that he's going to be behind the camera for the Undercovers pilot.
The show can't come quickly enough for our liking. Until then, there's always JJ Abrams' other running TV project, Fringe, to keep an eye on...
