Doctor Who: The End Of Time Part Two preview scene and promo

Simon Brew

David Tennant has just days left as Doctor Who - and here's a scene from The End Of Time Part 2, plus the Next Time promo for it...

Published on Dec 27, 2009

We'll state the obvious first. You don't want to be here if you haven't seen part one of The End Of Time yet. If you have, then firstly, here's the 'Next Time' clip that played at the end of the credits in case you missed it...

And here is what looks like the first scene post-opening credits from The End Of Time Part Two.

We can't wait to see what the Time Lords have been up to, and this clip sees Timothy Dalton coming across all Darth Vader-ish, as well as more on the Time War (which is perhaps the big, uninvestigated story strand left from Russell T Davies' time on Doctor Who).

Also, that visionary - there's some speculation as to who she might be an older version of. We should state there's no spoiler there - we know no more about this than you do - but it's one of several interesting thoughts in the build-up to New Year's Day. Dalton's glove, too: there are one or two things that could be from classic Who of old.

Here's the clip....

Finally, in case you missed it, here's our review of part one, which appears to be splitting opinions pretty much down the middle.

Doctor Who: The End Of Time Part Two is screening on Friday 1st January 2010.

First impressions: Sh1t CGI! As for the Glove, is it the left hand of the pair made famous by the Ressurection Glove in Torchwood? It's too easy to grab at straws in a trailer like this but it's the whole idea of Time Travel that scrambles the brain :-( This is the last day of the Timelords, the Doctor has just dissapeared to destroy the Timelords, so is this a flashback, or what? Is the "present" time of the Doctor the same as that of the rest of the Timelords? Is their "return" just after their defeat, or have they spent aeons away? I'm sure it's been explained before - and better than the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff :-)

Sorry, that should have been "destroy the Daleks" - not the Timelords!

I have to agree, that looks to me more like a flashback to the end of the Time War than the present day. The Doctor still has "The Moment" (whatever that is) and the Timelords' visionary can see that he will use it to wipe out the them and the Daleks and end the war. On that subject, I will mark so hard if we get to see Paul McGann's Doctor again (because I'm convinced it was him who fought in the Time War, especially given the suggestion in the first episode of New Who that Ecclestone had only recently regenerated). That scene also makes it look like, knowing what was coming, Dalton & Co. found some way to go into hiding so as to survive the end of the war. Can't wait for New Year's Day!

First thoughts on seeing the visionary - "Oh... an all-seeing (and possibly insane) character just like the end of last year's series. Tad lazy on the writing front methinks..."

"As for the Glove, is it the left hand of the pair made famous by the Ressurection Glove in Torchwood?" Looks similar doesn't it? I'm sure it's not the left version of the pair though as we encountered that in Torchwood already in the previous series before the specials, and it's power is different. It does make me wonder if all the gloves are time lord technology though. So far I like the clip.

"that looks to me more like a flashback to the end of the Time War than the present day." I agree that it's a flashback but with the ladies statement of "We're on the edge of the time war now" and her description of the travesty of the centre of the war, this suggest to me this might be at the start of the war. I.e, she's saying, "maybe it's time we all die, because if we continue, our people will continue to die and resurrect to die again*. It's a travesty of life, so maybe it should finish now." *I assume she's talking about Timelord regeneration here.

Sorry, 'ladies statement' should be 'lady's statement'

It's probably the Glove of Rassilon, nearly everything on Galifrey belonged to the old timelord Rassilon

I personally think that this clip is amazing. Dalton is inspired casting and the CGI is breathtaking. At times. I think older fans forget how ropey, lazy and unconvincing 'classic' Who actually was for the most part. There were howls of laughter in my household when Confidential showed classic clips on Christmas Day. Roll on News Years Day - it's going to be special ;)

If this is a flashback, then please have Paul Mcgann in the role. Or hell, even new footage of Christoper Eccleston, just that little tiny extra detail would make it SO much better. Having a previous Doctor just glimpsed or identified on security footage escaping. And I agree with The_Two, McGann HAD to be fighting the timewar. [put him in without the wig even!]

Interesting trailer. I am quite excited by the return of the Time Lords, less excited about the spin that RTD is putting on them as ‘enemies’ of the Doctor. In the Who Confidential episode, RTD talks about how the Time Lords have always been the enemies of the Doctor. I disagree…certainly some Time Lords have been enemies, but not all. In previous incarnations the Doctor has often butted heads with the establishment, i.e., the Time Lords, only as a consequence of their non-interference policy (conveniently forgotten in Genesis of the Daleks) and his disregard for said policy. Best Bits: Anything with Wilf or Donna (please, please, give better resolution to her story) in it, The Master and Doctor having a chat about the past, THE TIME LORDS RETURN! Who is the woman Wilf is seeing (my money is on the White Guardian!)? Pet peeves so far: The same old “why are you special” we had with Donna but with Wilf (personally, I hope he’s a Time Lord or Something). What is the deal with the soothsayer? The Time Lords are a scientific, logical people, since when does havey-cavey prophesizing come in? And 15 minutes of head shaking and The Master waving is a writer’s laziness! Bring on the End of Time, part dieux!
