Confirmed: Misfits gets second series
Simon Brew
A second series of the excellent Misfits is definitely happening! Woo-hoo!
Published on Dec 18, 2009
Full credit to E4 on this one. Firstly, it backed a show of the ilk we don't usually see from the channel (F4 my wife used to call it, given all the Friends repeats that once seemed to be the only thing you could find there), when it commissioned Howard Overman's brilliant Misfits (and if you missed our review of the terrific season finale, you can find it here).
And crucially, in advance of the final episode of series one being broadcast, it confirmed that a second series had been given the green light. This is terrific and deserved news for one of the best new shows of the year, and we'll thus be getting another six episodes, presumably for broadcast in late 2010.
In the press announcement, Howard Overman had this to say:
"As a writer there is always the worry that people won’t get what you’re trying to do, love the characters as much as you, or indeed find them half as funny. The fact that audiences have taken to them so enthusiastically, is enormously exciting as it now gives me the opportunity to expand on the world which we have set up. I had always storyboarded for future series and am thrilled E4 wants us to continue providing some more dark, twisted, storm charged, Misfits style superhero capers. But without the capes obviously.”
Mr Overman? From where we're sitting, the credit is all yours. And we look forward to seeing the Misfits again in the future...
