Stargate Universe gets second season

SyFy confirms that 20 more episodes of Stargate Universe are coming. A fresh run of Sanctuary is commissioned too…

Ah, now this is good news to kick the week off. Stargate Universe has been something of a triumph since it debuted a couple of months back, and as we stand at the half-way point of season one (the show is currently on break), it's now been confirmed by SyFy (you know we hate that name, right?) that a second season has been given the greenlight. What's more, it's a second season with a 20 episode order, and work is understood to have already begun on it.

Co-creator Robert Cooper has also confirmed that a new alien race is set to be introduced into SGU, which sounds like it might happen before the end of season one. According to The Hollywood Reporter, season one won't recommence until April, though. Bah.

SyFy (nnnghh) has also commissioned a third season of Sanctuary, which will also feature 20 episodes.

SG-U getting a 2nd series is great news, this is probably the best new SciFi to come out of the states this year. The only thing better has been Misfits, which I will be really surprised if it doesn't get picked up for another run. As for Sanctuary... why? I stuck out the 1st season of this and embarked on the 2nd but its been pretty dire (and bizarrely orange) and have given up on it :-/ Although I did see a trailer for it in something recently that had it looking quite good....

Yet they won't show the Doctor Who specials, or Sarah Jane. Screw em!

BBC America finally woke up and realized that it could get first rights to BBC shows. I'm sure Sci-Fi (I refuse to call it SyFy) will be able to get them sooner or later.

Maybe the new alien race get Rush off the planet? Anyhoo, it's quite good news, just hope its stories becomes less 'soapy'. I'm still waiting for Sanctuary to shine. Chris Heyerdahl aside, it all seems painfully lightweight...

Sanctuary has been getting steadily better in the second season. It's very much in the character-based drama mould as SGU but as its unique selling point to sci-fi was basically is cheap production values then it's not as glossy as SGU. They've been very bold in how they use their characters and aren't afraid of major character deaths and morally grey areas either. Still strange seeing Amanda Tapping with dark hair and a british accent though!

YIPEEEE!!!! . Now that makes my year . Looking forward to 2010 now as I love Stargate and Sanctuary . Just wish Amanda Tapping played in Stargate U as well .
