David Tennant signs up for US legal series

What will David Tennant do once his reign as Doctor Who is over? Turns out he might be heading to America…
Published on Nov 3, 2009
As his tenure as Doctor Who draws to a close, it's been revealed by Reuters that actor David Tennant may well have found a new project to keep him off the streets. Tennant has reportedly signed up to a new pilot of a legal series being developed by NBC in the States, with the network presumably keen to repeat the success that Hugh Laurie continues to enjoy in House.
The show is called Rex Is Not Your Lawyer, and it's a comedy drama about a litigator - that'd be Tennant's character - who suffers panic attacks. It's a little bit out of concept corner, to be fair, with said litigator then beginning to coach clients so that they can represent themselves in the court room.
The project has been milling around for a year or two, having finally secured a green light from NBC in the summer. And if the pilot episode hits big, as NBC will be hoping (and it is in safe territory for US TV drama, given that it's a legal show), then Mr Tennant may well be spending an awful lot of time in America for the next few years.
Here's the Reuters story.
