VIDEO: 9 minutes of The Prisoner from Comicon
Martin Anderson
No.6 is really up against it in his search for freedom, as this new footage shows...

Just a quickie, as we're in the middle of a few other bits and pieces here at DoG, but thanks to John Moore for pointing out the 9 minutes of comicon footage from AMC's new version of the classic Patrick McGoohan sixties brain-twister The Prisoner, with Jim Cavalziel and Ian McKellen.
You'll see that Rover has been considerably blown up compared to the weather-balloon proportions of the ITC original and that No.6 (now just '6') is a New Yorker rather than a British agent...
Wish we had more time to comment, but here's the clip:

It's really playing the 'Lost' card rather than the whole Id vs. Ego thing of the original, isn't it? I must admit that I never got a fair bit of what the original Prisoner was trying to say (did anyone?) but this new version does seem to be dumbed down somewhat. McKellan looks good though...

My $.02?
McKellen looks great...as always.
Caviezel looks dull...as always (especially opposite McKellen's indomitable talent).
And the whole production looks very, erm, beige (both literally and figuratively), and it seems like it's going to be a hopelessly literal simplification of the original series' allegory.
P.S.
Are we always going to have to type to include paragraph breaks around here?

Yeah and that trailer butt fuck me and never called me back ! There's alot things wrong with this take of The Prisoner compare to classic Prisoner episodes that piss me off ! You want remake it, remake it, but dude, fuck ! Don't take away the things that made this show ! With The Prisoner it wasn't just Rover that made it such an iconic classic show. It was where it was set in Wales, it was him being a british spy and being branded number and fuck it was funky hand gesture the guys did when they said be seeing you ! What have they done with that ?!? Why did they get rid of that ?!? That really gets to me but then I've always had my own ideas of what they should do to this show if they turn the original six episodes Patrick Mc Googhan into movie. Have it star a former bond like Pierce Brosan and make out it happening James Bond just without saying it. Make out he's on island with other political prisoners who were sent there including celebrities like John Lennon, Brian Jones and Bill Hicks. Make out they only made out they had died ...

I do hope not. We ask every year for this...and I hope that it will be delivered one day. (Martin)

A far bigger 'Rover' to keep No.6 in line....
