Doctor Who : Latest News from Comic-Con

RTD & Co. host a panel out at Comic-Con sharing some facts about the future with the fans - SPOILERS ahead...

Published on Jul 26, 2009

At this year's Comic-Con, which has been taking place over the past few days in San Diego, Doctor Who fans were treated to a panel featuring Russell T Davies, David Tennant, Julie Gardner and Euros Lyn.

During this session some facts were relayed regarding the upcoming specials so if you  are remaining SPOILER-FREE then you'd better stop reading now (though this information will be all over the place soon enough).

First up though came the issue of the Doctor Who Movie which many people thought was the purpose of RTD and Tennant's appearance at Comic-Con. Sadly, for the time being, there will be no announcement of a cinematic outing for the Time Lord though the prospect of a film is being seriously looked at.

The audience got a sneak peak at the last two specials - which may be called The End of Time -  in the form of a very quick preview, narrated by Timothy Dalton. In the clip the characters Wilfred Mott (played by Bernard Cribbins), Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) and The Master (a very blonde looking John Simm) all made an appearance. Outgoing showrunner Davies revealed that Lucy Saxon would also be making a return.

David Tennant hasn't ruled a return as Gallifrey's finest (he even joked about the 50th anniversary in 2013) and before he bows out as The Tenth Doctor he will be seen first in The Sarah Jane Adventures two-parter entitled, The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith (due for broadcast in October).

With regards to the other spin-off series Torchwood, which has recently aired on BBC America to record ratings, Russell T Davies said that nothing was definite but he was confident of its return in some shape or form.

If Torchwood has been a huge ratings hit in the US then I pretty much think we can take season 4 (and possibly 5) as going to happen. The beeb would have to be insane not to commission another series with an option on a 2nd given that RTD has said he is ready and willing to make at least one more.

Discrespective, you are aware of the concept of advertising, in the sense of 'making people aware of; heightening once profile'?

LMAO, surely they would only go to a huge gathering of geeks if they palnned to blow them away with news of films, tv shows, spin offs, toys, world cures and the second coming.... (well if RTD hadn't already done the 2nd coming.)

Having just looked at that clip of the final episodes from ComicCon, I have to say, "The End of Time" looks to me far more like an advertising tag-line than the name of either of the actual episodes, so until it's confirmed either way, I would discount it, as much as it does sound like something RTD might ave written.

Well that torchwood response was crap. Of course it will. books audios comics, thats a total non-answer. Tell you who would be excellent at sorting out this END OF TIME nonsense... some timelords. Can't wait to see them all return now that the BBC has the budget to make Gallifrey look good.

I'm avoiding spoilers, as usual, so sorry I haven't read any of this...but just wanted to say that's a hilarious picture!
