Torchwood season two latest

Filming's underway, Captain Jack is back and James Marsters has just been added to the cast list. We catch up with Torchwood's 'difficult' second season
Published on Jun 21, 2007
Truthfully, it’s a show that few of us here were particularly fond of, not least that episode with the alien who had lots of cravings for sex. And it’s interesting that Captain Jack’s backstory, which took some time to unravel in Torchwood, has just been covered in a matter of minutes in a Doctor Who episode. But still, after getting ratings above two million viewers for its opening episodes – a BBC Three record, unsurprisingly – the green light was secured for more.
This time, it’s already been confirmed that Torchwood will be going out first on BBC Two when it returns at the back end of the year (although some rumours are circulating that it won’t hit our screens til 2008). And the main cast members will be remaining in place too, led by the indestructible John Barrowman.
Also just confirmed is the addition of James Marsters to the guest list. Marsters, known to us primarily for playing Spike in the still-missed Buffy The Vampire Slayer, will be appearing in an episode of the second series. We also know that James Moran, he who co-wrote the Brit-hit Severance, has penned an episode.
Torchwood has, to be fair, got a bit of work on its hands here, courtesy of the mixed response to the first season. But the right noises to date appear to be being made thus far, and filming is apparently well underway. We wait and see if series two steadies what even its most passionate advocates would have to admit has been a very rocky ship…

I'll watch James's* episode. And that'll be about it.
* Moran, not Marsters. Possibly his too, though.
