Doctor Who: Special No. 2 At Christmas

Cameron K McEwan

the Easter Special is pretty much all we've got until Christmas

After "Planet of the Dead", the next 'special' for the Doctor won't be until Christmas but at least the first one is on track for Easter.

Published on Mar 4, 2009

In the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, series writer Gareth Roberts has confirmed that the second Doctor Who "special" will be broadcast at Christmas.

During an interview with the magazine the writer of Planet of the Dead (the first of this year's specials) said, "the Easter Special is pretty much all we've got until Christmas." The second special has recently started filming with Lindsay Duncan spotted on set with David Tennant, a "robot", some snow and Ood Sigma.

On the first special, Roberts remarks that he returned to some of his earlier work (the Virgin New Adventures) for inspiration telling DWM that there is a "vague" revisiting of his novel, The Highest Science with some "imagery" used in the final product. The Unicorn & The Wasp scribe also adds that this special will feature a character who is a "loving portrait of Doctor Who fandom."

Planet of the Dead, co~written by Russell T Davies and Roberts, is on track for an "Easter" broadcast despite numerous setbacks which included poor weather (at home and abroad) and a broken bus.

I hated The Unicorn & The Wasp, just hearing its name makes me cringe, and as such I'm not a great fan of this writer, but I will await to see what he and Russel can pull out. CHRISTMAS? I have to wait another eight months for my next doctor who fix, thats cruel

That's what I understood-4 specials in 2009. I guess they're going to hold the last 2 back until just before series 5.

Well, it could be Christmas Eve & Christmas Day or Christmas Day and New Years eve. I believe one interview did imply that 1 of the specials would be held back until early 2010. So it could even be a three-special holiday season. Christmas Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day

Nope. Fans are getting screwed on this one. Only three specials. And then Tennant's done.

"Planet of the Dead" will go out at Easter on BBC One. Then, Christmas Day 2009 will see the broadcast of the second special on BBC One, followed by the third special (part one of a two-part episode) on New Year's Eve, with New Year's Day being the broadcast date for Tennant's final episode. Hope that clears everything up for you.
