Doctor Who: The Ood Are Back
Cameron K McEwan
Much loved new series monsters make their third outing in Doctor Who, popping up in the specials.
Published on Feb 28, 2009
Filming on the second Doctor Who special continued last night in Newport, Wales with some returning monsters from the show making an appearance.
Spotted on~set, alongside David Tennant and Lyndsay Duncan, was an Ood. The creature was clothed similarly to "Ood Sigma" from last year's Planet Of The Ood. Earlier this week filming took place in a quarry where David Tennant was seen wearing the orange spacesuit from 2006's The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit.
Fake snow filled the streets of Newport last night suggesting that this could well be the Christmas episode; directing is Graeme Harper.

So long as it's better than their second time out. I know PotO had its fans, but I loathed it...and I adored Impossible/Satan, which doesn't help in comparison either.

I don't see how its the bottom of the barrel, I remember feeling very strongly at the end of PotO that that episode wasn't going to be the last we saw off the Ood, can't remember why now but I remember chatting with some mates who all felt the same. Personally I like the OoD, they where great in the 1st double bill, although i do think the "reveal" about them at the end of PotO was a bit shit... I still think they could become a classic Dr Who alien race, particularly if they pick up the demon thing again... (or create some romulan / vulcan split in the race)

Its inevitable that expensive costumes will return. I fully expect to see the Sontarans make a return because of that. The Ood storylines to date have not struck me as particularly compelling, but they could have potential. PotO added a little more to their back story, so as always with the Doctor it's wait and see..
