Is there – even putting aside our Doctor Who salivations for a minute – a more looked-forward to science-fiction show right now than the fourth and final season of Battlestar Galactica? Accepting that it’s going to be broadcast in two halves, and that we won’t see how everything finishes until well into next year, there’s nonetheless a real thirst for Ronald D Moore’s revival of a science fiction legend, and that it’s one of the very best programmes on TV in any genre is no understatement.Plans, however, have begun to emerge for the point where Battlestar leaves our screens for good (or until someone else revives it again in a decade or two), and it seems that the production team have a prequel up their sleeves.
The Sci-Fi Channel has now confirmed that it has given the green light to a two hour pilot of Caprica, set a full fifty years before the events of Battlestar Galactica. Production on the show will begin in the next month or two, and once again Ronald D Moore and David Eick are behind it. With a bit of luck, we may get to see it this year, but we wouldn't bet on it just yet.
Meanwhile, Battlestar Galactica season four kicks off in America the first week of April. Hurray!
