Doctor Who: David Morrissey would jump at title role

A new interview with the Radio Times re-opens speculation over David Tennant’s replacement…
Published on Dec 1, 2008
In spite of the widespread belief now that Paterson Joseph has been offered and accepted the role of Doctor Who (although right now birds are laying eggs to arrange on ours and many peoples’ faces should that not prove to be the case), the speculation machine continues. And once again, the spotlight has swung towards David Morrissey.
Now we don’t want to go into the plot of the Christmas special, The Next Doctor, in any great detail, but it’s fairly common knowledge that this is being billed as a two Doctors story of sorts, replete with Morrissey waving around a sonic screwdriver.
And given that Morrissey looks like he is playing the Doctor, at the time when David Tennant has confirmed he’s passing on the keys to the Tardis, inevitably that makes him one of the bookies’ favourites.
The same bookies who seemingly aren’t that familiar with the Big Finish adventure The One Doctor. We’ll say no more about that, though.
Still, some added fuel has now been added by Morrissey himself, declaring that if the role was offered to him, he would “jump at it”. This is part of an interview in the Radio Times, where he also remarked that “I think it's a great character and I've loved every minute.”
Off the back of that, Morrissey-fever has thus kicked off again, and in lieu of an announcement as to Tennant’s replacement, we can expect that to carry on for some time (at least until Christmas Day).
However, our money’s still on Mr Joseph…
