Pushing Daisies canned: but will it save Heroes?

Simon Brew

The end has come for Pushing Daisies, and only fans of Heroes are likely to be pleased...

The news that many of its fans both feared and expected became real yesterday, as recent rumours of the demise of Pushing Daisies proved to be true. The show, along with Dirty Sexy Money and Eli Stone, has reached the end of the road, with the ABC Network’s decision not to order a back season for them. At the same time, incidentally, it confirmed the order for more Life On Mars episodes that we recently reported.

All of the currently-ordered episodes of Pushing Daisies have already been filmed, and a further episode of the show is currently still scheduled for next week.

The demise of Pushing Daisies has, inevitably, reopened speculation that writer/producer Bryan Fuller may be returning to Heroes. Fuller wrote many of the season one episodes of the show that helped it build its reputation, and also has Dead Like Me on his CV. And with Heroes needing all the help it can get – with disappointing ratings, disappointing critical notices and even the tie-in video game being cancelled – this might just be that show’s last, crucial roll of the dice.

Time will tell. In the meantime, we’re just left to lament the ending of another quality television show, that can leave some room in the schedules for a bit more reality TV or something.

Bah.

What on Earth's going on? Great shows like Daises, Eli Stone, MY Own Worst Enemy, Jericho... all get cancelled, yet total tripe like Knight Rider get the green light!

The general viewing public deserve the masses of brain dead crap, paint-by-numbers police dramas and reality TV shite they get. Anything that even vaguely causes people to think seems doomed right from the off. I despair, I really do.

Killer7: Well, you've got to remember that it's NBC that publishes Night Rider. They don't seem to have a clue what they are doing.
