Doctor Who: David Tennant on the future
Simon Brew
David Tennant has been talking about life after Who, and about what happens next...
Now that the cat is out of the bag and it’s been confirmed that David Tennant is standing down as Doctor Who, it must be almost something of a relief to the man that he can talk about it. Thus, he went on BBC Breakfast television, and gave an interview about his time in the Tardis.
And while there seemed to be only so much, ironically, that he could say, Tennant did admit that he wouldn’t rule out returning to the show at some point in the future. Given the success of Peter Davison’s brief return last year, that wouldn’t be a surprise, but as we also noted in our review of Journey’s End, there’s a clone version of Tennant’s Doctor at Bad Wolf Bay anyway should he ever need a cameo appearance.
Tennant also refused to be drawn into speculation as to who his successor in the role would be, simply saying “It’s not down to me … I’ve got nothing to do with it”.
In the interview, he also noted how Steven Moffat nearly swayed his decision. Arguing that Moffat’s appointment had made leaving more difficult, Tennant revealed that the two had met, and that Moffat had talked through his ideas, which he described as “so good”. But, ultimately, he decided to stick with his decision.
Tennant will still be filming a collection of special episodes in 2009, and a big finale for him has been promised.

Re: Doctor Who: David Tennant on the future Pah thought we'd get 5 years from DT, thought he'd at least match the Pertwee one :-( | |
Re: Doctor Who: David Tennant on the future Pertwee was in his 50s when he took the role, though. At that age, I imagine that one doesn't mind being type-cast quite so much. |
