Doctor Who: Prince Charles turned down role

Simon Brew

Royalty in the Tardis? It just wasn't mean to be...

Just a quick Doctor Who titbit for today, and that’s the revelation that Prince Charles was offered a cameo role on the show. According to Russell T Davies, who was talking at the Cheltenham Literature Festive, the Prince turned the opportunity down. In the words of Davies, “the miserable swine!”

To be fair, he was probably on a hiding to nothing if he did take the role. Not least because he’s hardly a man renowned for his acting skills, and that Davies planned to blow up Buckingham Palace in Voyage of the Damned (as revealed in the recent book, The Writer’s Tale).

You can’t blame them for trying, though…

I for one am glad he turned it down. Peter Kay was bad enough, but Prince Charles? 'Miserable swine' is too kind. Spike Milligan's description was nearer the mark.
