BBC formally announce Torchwood series 3
Simon Brew
Torchwood is currently before the cameras, and we've got news on writers, guest stars and the plot right here...
It’s not been the biggest secret in the world, but the third series of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood is now before the cameras, and it’s been formally confirmed by a BBC press release. The series will definitely run for five episodes, will definitely be called Torchwood: Children of Earth, and will definitely see the return of John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Eve Myles (Gwen) and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto). Kai Owen will also be in the cast as Rhys Williams, the husband of Gwen, and Tom Price as PC Andy.
Guest stars have also been confirmed. The Thick Of It’s Peter Capaldi is playing civil servant Mr Frobisher, Coronation Street alumni Paul Copely will be playing Clem, while Liz May Brice (from, er, Bad Girls and The Bill) is Johnson, a covert government agent who wants to expose Torchwood.
Russell T Davies, as part of the announcement, underplayed the upcoming series: “The new series of Torchwood is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever – the audience is in for an amazing ride. This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we've ever made, and we've got plenty of surprises in store."
The plot, according to the official release, “sees the team embarking on a single action-packed adventure as they battle for the future of the human race against the fiercest force they have encountered.”
The series will be written by Russell T Davies (for the first time since episode one), James Moran (who we interviewed here about working on Doctor Who and Torchwood) and John Fay (Clocking Off). Euros Lyn is directing, and it will be broadcast on BBC One around Easter-time.

Re: BBC formally announce Torchwood series 3Frobisher...hmmm somebodys been reading the Colin Baker Dr Who comics where Frobisher was the doctors companion and I think the first (and last) companion who was a shapeshifter who liked the guise of a penguin. |
