Bryan Singer talks X-Men: Apocalypse

News Glen Chapman 9 Jan 2014 - 06:26

Singer has been chatting about the follow up to the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past.

With the release of X-Men: Days Of Future Past mere months away, you'd have thought that the focus for director Bryan Singer would be to publicise and talk up that film. Instead, much of his recent conversation has been about X-Men: Apocalypse. In fairness to Singer, he has always been forthcoming with information about Days Of Future Past without giving too much away, and it's pleasing to see this level of enthusiasm.

Singer has been chatting once again about X-Men: Apocalypse, and here's what he had to say about it: “I'm co-writing the story and I'm producing it. I'm negotiating to direct. We're in the process. We're trying to figure it out, schedules. My desire would be to direct it.”

I'm sure if Days of Future Past proves to be a hit - and it's surely unlikely that it'll flop - then Singer will have no problems securing the job. Singer went on to discuss the ideas he has for Apocalypse: “It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It's something that's always intrigued me when we think about our gods and our history and miracles and powers.”

X-Men: Days Of Future Past is set for release on the 22nd May 2014 with X-Men: Apocalypse following in 2016.

Does anyone know if he'll be taking any influence from comics for Apocalypse?
I've never read any X-Men comics , but Singer talking about mutant history and origins is very exciting!
Bring on 2016!!

I never read em, only watched the 90's cartoon. I cant remember if it got THAT deep lol. Honestly I'm not trying to remember. There are so few surprises these days and it's for no other reason than me clicking and reading. Idiot. Not you, me.

The question is: Will Hugh Jackman still be on board?

he'll be front and centre as usual, because y'know, god forbid they make an x-men movie without him in it. *wink*

I hope he does, Apocalypse is an ancient, near immortal mutant with a "survival of the fittest" mentality. Really interesting character who firs in with looking at the origins of mutants.

That sounds so sweet, better stay away from Wikipedia then!

Ha, I'm the same!
I've only just managed to pull away from reading what happens in films before I hit the cinema or reading the reviews on this site for TV shows.

Comics on the other hand... I'm still struggling with.. perhaps this Apocalypse character can be my challenge?
Can I last 2 whole years without reading up on him... I'll try.

PITCH IDEA: 'Comic Book Movies of Future Past', in which Bryan Singer must travel back to 1991 to warn his younger, cooler self against spending his best years making endless comic book movies that will fail to satisfy both fanboys and actual grown-ups everywhere. Also not to do that stupid idea about giving Superman a kid.'

Yeah I ruined the winter soldiers for myself. I read it on purpose by accident, wanting to not wanting to. I'll just stay out of bookstores for a while

Yep that was on the cartoon, so if they make him an alien... I will boycott all m night shyamalan movies!!! And reader's digest and kmart.

Apocalypse walks into a bar: hey, I'm looking for a few good mutants to-
Wolverine: shut your hole, Wang Chun.

he's the Xmen's version of RDJ! Movies cant do without him!

Hopefully he'll have a talking sentient ship + his riders.
