Ellen Page wants a Kitty Pryde movie
Joss Whedon may not get to make it, but if a Kitty Pryde movie happens, you can count Ellen Page in...
Last week, we reported that it looked like a female-led superhero movie from Marvel still looked some way away. But one candidate, for such a project, even though it wouldn't come from Marvel direct, is a Kitty Pryde spin-off.
Ellen Page played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand, and she's reprising the role in next year's X-Men: Days Of Future Past. And it's not lost on her that a Kitty Pryde film is something that Joss Whedon has occasionally discussed, but got nowhere with raising any interest in. Since then, of course, he's gone on to make The Avengers, and his immediate plate is full with Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Avengers: Age Of Ultron.
Furthermore, should a Pryde movie press ahead with Ellen Page involved, then it'd presumably fall under 20th Century Fox's rights rather than Marvel's.
Still, if there's a path through the maze of getting it all made, you can count Ellen Page as interested. "Well I'm available", she told Vulture. " Kitty Pryde’s awesome. I’m super grateful to be the actress who’s gotten to be her, and you only desperately hope that the true fans who have a right to demand what they want and who have been passionate about these stories for a really long time, that you can pull it off for them. I would be so thrilled to play Kitty Pryde again. I really would".
If there's any chance of a spin-off, then next year's X-Men: Days Of Future Past needs to do some really impressive numbers. Until then? Add it to the list of comic book movies we'd like to see, but fear we've got little chance of doing so...
