Castle Wolfenstein movie finally happening

The long-in-gestation movie of the Wolfenstein videogames is finally pressing ahead...

Now here's a project that we thought was firmly dead and buried. There had been previous talk about bringing the videogame series Castle Wolfenstein to the big screen, but it never, ultimately, made it past the starting blocks.

Until now, anyway. Because Panorama Media has announced that it's pushed the green light on the project. Roger Avary, who had been previously attached, is going to be writing and directing the film, and the aim is apparently to capture a tone that's some way between Captain America and Inglorious Basterds.

With a screenplay yet to be written, presumably there's some way to go before the film goes before the cameras. But then, given that Avary was first involved in a Castle Wolfenstein movie some five years ago, we suspect he's hardly starting from scratch here.
