New trailer for Roland Emmerich's White House Down

Trailer Simon Brew 3 May 2013 - 06:42

Roland Emmerich directs, whilst Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum star, as the White House is back under attack...

Olympus Has Fallen has proven to be the first surprise hit of 2013. The White House under attack action movie has its problems, but it feels a purer action film that you get from a Die Hard sequel these days, and its global take currently stands at $130m off a $70m budget. It's all but guaranteed to be a sizeable hit on home formats too.

Which has left Sony with an interesting challenge. For it has the second White House under attack movie of the year to come, courtesy of Roland Emmerich's White House Down. This one stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx, and is heading to our screens in September, hoping that we'll all go and watch two films of similar ilk. A brand new trailer for it has launched too, which you can see below.

The general rule when two movies arrive with similar subject matter in close succession is that the first is the 'clever' one (Deep Impact, Dante's Peak), with the more action-centric one to follow (Armageddon, Volcano). Might that change this time around? Take a look and see what you reckon...

This seems to be much more comedic than I expected.

Just my thought. I think I'll be giving it a miss.

Agreed... Not sire about the bromance elements in that trailer.

Looks a bit daft/too comedic to me! But agreed OHF was definitely a true Die Hard film!

What's with all the 'funny' lines? It makes Olympus Has Fallen seem like a drama.

It ought to be in your risky blockbusters of the 90's article.

Movie voice over man.

It's POTUS & BROTUS, in the action comedy of the year,

White House Down... If you ain't down with the Prez

INSERT punch or gunshot here

....You're going down.

INSERT explosion or scream here.

So many questions... Why are they playing the President like such a badass? Why is the script leaning closer to 21 Jump Street than Olympus Has Fallen? Most importantly, though, why the Hell does Channing Tatum think its acceptable to tell his daughter that he has an interview with the secret freaking service?? The clue is in the title, my friend, keep that on the down low!

Stuff like this used to happen every other episode in the West Wing...

Ok I lie, it happened only once or twice per season...

Alright I'm still telling porkies, it never happened in the West Wing but it was still an awesome show.

I thought Olympus Was Fallen was missing something. It was too po-faced and the action wasn't frequent or crazy enough. This doesn't look better, but I can probably forgive it more if it's light hearted, This tonally reminds me a lot of 90's action films. I'm getting so much Under Seige 1 & 2 from this. But I Under Seige 2 is one of my guilty pleasures. It's so awful with his incapable sidekick that becomes badass and the main character being underestimated but ultimately the ultimate killer. That said, if they made Under Seige 3 I wouldn't pay to see it, and I won't be paying to see this unless I hear very good things. Which i deem unlikely.

I actually like the look of this, CT has finally learnedm how to act (kind of) and he's grown a personality.
And looks like a worthy successor to The Die Hard films that have fallen from grace

I don't know, there was that episode where Jeb was looked quite aggressive while holding a pool cue - surely that's close enough?

This almost looks like the comedy version of White House Down.

this looks like what die hard 5 should have been. im interested.

What am I saying! I meant Olympus Has Fallen.

The president has way too much swag :)

Antoine Fuqua is easily twice the director that Roland Emmerich will ever be, so I'm guessing 'Olympus Has Fallen' is the better one between these two films... 'White House Down' may have the bigger budget, but 'Olympus Has Fallen' has the bigger kick to it, and didn't hold back on the ultra-violence the way this film undoubtedly will!

Brainless rubbish.

These movies are a lift from 24.

The arc in which African commandos seized the White House.

Which of course was part of a real-world plot to prime the American population for war with Africa ...

We've all got the title wrong. It's not "White House Down". It's "White House... DOWN!"
