First trailer for Roland Emmerich's White House Down

Roland Emmerich recruits Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum in a fight to save the White House. Here's the White House Down trailer...

We're sure it's purely coincidental that Sony has timed the release of the maiden trailer for Roland Emmerich's White House Down at a point where similarly-themed action picture Olympus Has Fallen is making good returns at the box office.

Both films focus on an attack on the White House, and Emmerich's movie features Jamie Foxx and Channing Tatum. That's in addition to Emmerich's trademark deployment of lots of visual effects of course.

This first trailer then seems to be trying to strike a sombre tone, although its job is to differentiate it a little from Olympus Has Fallen. It is, to be fair to Sony, a smart movie to put this movie in other peoples' heads while the other is playing as well. So without further ado...

Let's hope it's shorter than 2012. That film was about as long as the year.

Didn't they do the same thing in Independence Day? More or less exactly the same but with Aliens? Anyway it looks like fun. Some of it looks a lot like Die Hard in the White House though.

Who is it that's doing this anyway? The Ghost of Osama Bin Laden?

think iam actually warming tatum as an actor! hes a bit like arnold just gets better with each movie

I like a good action Special FX movie as much as the next man, but this looks atrocious - full of American patriotism and posturing and I'm willing to bet a kidney that Tatum as the all-American hero saves the day in the end with no hint at redemption for any characters.

From Roland Emmerich, the present day Irwin Allen ...

I only laughed once watching the trailer.

Where's Jack Bauer when you need him??

If Emmerich's name doesn't get people laughing out loud, I'm not sure what else will. Did this whole White House ambush plot thing start with series 7 of 24?

It does not look great, I not a fan of over the top cgi with helicopters , might give this a miss.

Anyone else severely underwhelmed by this?

No , as usual with these types of drama only AMERICAN or BRITISH baddies can pull off this type of stunt. Also, a few too many scenes set in sewers/dark corridors show evidence of the producers saving money - open air firefights too expensive to get right so lets put them in the dark where we can wing it.

But will there be neutrinos mutating this time?????
