Wally Pfister, cinematographer on the likes of Inception and The Dark Knight Rises, is being joined by Johnny Depp for his new film...

Cinematographer Wally Pfister is moving ahead with his planned directorial debut, and he’s now gone and snagged Johnny Depp for the lead role.

Pfister, who set internet tongues wagging with his less than upbeat thoughts on The Avengers the other week, has certainly been building up to his first directorial effort. He’s shot every one of Christopher Nolan’s movies since 1999’s Momento, winning an Oscar for Inception. Nolan will be executive producing Pfister’s new movie, along with Emma Thomas.

The film itself is called Transcendence, which is based on a script from Jack Paglen. The exact nature of the story is under wraps at the moment, and Johnny Depp’s involvement is expected to be confirmed shortly. Alcon Entertainment is putting the film together, and Warner Bros will release it.

More on Transcendence when we get it. Should be one to look forward to…
