Troma's The Toxic Avenger is getting a remake, and Arnold Schwarzenegger is signing up for a lead role...

Not discouraged by the commercial disappointment of The Last Stand, Arnold Schwarzenegger is lining up more movie projects to add to his slate. In his defence, The Last Stand is actually a really quite solid action movie, and its box office failure was something of a surprise. Still, Arnie is covering his bases somewhat by tackling a bunch of sequels to his previous hits in the year or two ahead.

But it looks like he's also adding the remake of The Toxic Avenger to his slate. The film has been in gestation for many years, with Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) long attached to direct. The original Troma movie came out in 1984, and it's a fair bet that this new version is going to cost a lot more.

Not least because Arnie does look like he's signing up for the film. He's set to play The Exterminator (yep) in the new film, a former black ops agent whose job it will be to train the movie's reluctant hero.

Production on the new film is expected to start in the autumn. Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, already has two films in the can: Escape Plan, with Sylvester Stallone, and Ten, alongside Sam Worthington.

The Wrap.
