Tom Clancy: 1947-2013
Tom Clancy has died, at the age of 66.
Here's some horrible news. The author Tom Clancy has died, at the age of just 66.
Clancy's work has crossed into several media, but first and foremost it was his novels, thrillers such as Red Storm Rising, The Hunt For Red October and Rainbow Six that shot him to prominence.
From there, film versions followed (and it was always worth listening to Clancy's views on how much the assorted adaptations had left his original text behind). His work served as the basis for four Jack Ryan movies - The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger and The Sum Of All Fears - with a fifth, Jack Ryan, due in cinemas soon.
Furthermore, Clancy's name is heavily entwined with videogames, thanks to the Rainbow Six games, along with Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell (the latter two of which are being turned into films).
Clancy died in Baltimore. His next book, Command Authority, is due out in December.
Rest in peace, sir. 66 is no age.
