Remember the Tom Hanks/Shelley Long movie, The Money Pit? It's heading to the small screen...

Well, at least it isn't another straight-out movie remake. That said, NBC has headed back to the movies to seek inspiration for another comedy series, and the finger of television fate is now pointed firmly in the direction of the 1986 Tom Hanks comedy, The Money Pit.

The film co-starred Shelley Long, was directed by Richard Benjamin, and told the tale of a young couple who think they've picked up a bargain on the housing market, only to find that it proves to be anything but.

The television adaptation is being overseen by Justin Spitzer, one-time writer-producer on The Office. The Money Pit is in development at the moment, although quite how it'd lend itself to the kind of multi-season arc that NBC would be looking for remains to be seen. We'll keep you posted...
