Tom Cruise and Guy Ritchie for The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E. might finally be heading to the big screen, with Tom Cruise and Guy Ritchie linked with the film...
As his next film, the incoming sci-fi blockbuster Oblivion, gets ready to land next month, Tom Cruise has continued to keep himself busy (he's already done the bulk of work on the film after that, All You Need Is Kill). It seems as though he's already found his next project, with reports this morning that the actor is circling the long-mooted big screen take on The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
The film version has been bubbling away for some time, with Steven Soderbergh linked with directing the movie a little while back. But Soderbergh dropped out of the project, and the man who has signed up instead is apparently Guy Ritchie.
Tom Cruise would take on the role played by Robert Vaughn in the television series, and Scott Z Burns has penned a screenplay for the movie.
Assuming all of this goes ahead as planned, it may also open up a vacancy for a director on Sherlock Holmes 3, which Warner Bros continues to develop. Ritchie directed the first two movies, but may just find himself otherwise engaged for the next one, if The Man From U.N.C.L.E. presses ahead.

No doubt it'll be as true to the source material as Mission Impossible was...
i.e. Napoleon Solo will find Illya Kuryakin and Mr Waverley have gone rogue and kill them both off in the most over-the-top stunt scene possible. Probably within the first 10 minutes.
He'll then spend the rest of the movie romancing a woman young enough to be his daughter, in between bouts of dangling on a rope from something very high up.
If it keeps Ritchie as far away from Bond as possible, I'm in favour.
Bullshit
leaves me with such little excitement. pass
I like richie but i agree with you, hes not a bond director!
Another film for TC to run in.
He's got quite the 'running in a film' portfolio now.
So far, I count three reasons why I'm never seeing this film
Hey, why not?
Actually, when Daniel Craig leaves Bond, TC can take over that '60s spy franchise, too. After all, he looks younger than Craig now, and I don't expect that to change.
Crawl back under your rock Tom Cruise and leave well enough alone.
I gather you didn't see MI4, the highest grossing spy flick till Skyfall came along.

And I for one cannot f**king wait!
Go Team TC!
Of course, I don't REALLY think that Cruise should take over every big spy franchise from the '60s, but ... MI4 was a spectacular film.
Agreed. I'll be honest, I have loved every MI film, even MI:2! Probably because I was a teenager at the time and jumping off of motorbikes mid-air just seemed like the coolest thing ever!
I've never described Cruise as my favorite movie star, can't abide Scientology, don't know what the deal is with his life (and don't particularly care) but he he does make an awful lot of good movies.
Get Guy Ritchie back on Sherlock Holmes 3!!!
Did anyone else misread this as 'Tom Cruise is gay for The Man From Uncle'?
Yes I did. It wasn't bad...but he did spend a fair bit of time dangling from the Burj Khalifa did he not? Not to mention that climax at the multi-storey car park... ;)
NO girl young enough to be his daughter. (BTW, he is a very youthful 50. I'm sure he's far more vigorous than guys here half his age.)
As for the rest, you got me.
But wait, it IS an action movie.
Maybe there is a bit too much drizzling and moaning about one of the most enduring movie stars in the world.
I will confidently predict that, should TC star in this, there will be an extended scene where he has to sprint around, chasing some bad guy.
