First poster for The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer star in The Lone Ranger. And we've got the first poster for it right here...

Yesterday, we pondered just why the upcoming movie of The Lone Ranger was costing a quarter a billion dollars to make. Today, we might get a hint of an answer to that.

That's because the first trailer for the movie is set to be released later on today. Ahead of that, here's the first teaser poster, complete with a tagline that could have worked for one or two superhero movies.

Starring Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer, William Fichtner, Tom Wilkinson and Helena Bonham Carter, The Lone Ranger is directed by Gore Verbinski, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and set for summer 2013. Pop back later if you fancy seeing the trailer...

The tagline should be: "We can feed five million children in Africa for a year with what we spent on this. Enjoy."

That's a bad poster and they should feel bad. Why not use the 'sand' font - it would make it look nicer.

Do we have to have Lone Ranger articles on DoG? Genuine question...

Should this be the tag line for every film with just a smaller time frame?

Inclined to agree, Adam. Surely cowbow films are outside our genre? There may as well be an article about "Coronation Street". (Unless the whole Lone Ranger review & publicity campaign is merely a very clever build-up for a fake movie which prepares the way for a fabulous Science Fiction film about a new type of Black Hole which makes vast sums of money disappear.....)

Did the crow take a crap and then crash into it? I can't unsee that now.

I know this sounds mental, what with this being a Lone Ranger poster and everything, but shouldn't they have put a little, you know, Lone Ranger into this?

Why not? Maybe that can go next to the star-rating in reviews.

"Jim, I gotta say: I enjoyed it, despite the silly plot and forced humour. I give it a solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. And on the budget, they've earned an impressive 4.9 million starving African children. Just shy of the all-time high Lone Ranger. Wow."

LOL I don't know if I should be impressed or sad, but I'll probably live to see a billion dollar movie. And it'll probably be crap.
