Confirmed: The Expendables 3 gets PG-13 rating in the US

The Expendables 3 gets a softer rating in the US, as its PG-13 status is confirmed.

Well, this seems to go against what The Expendables was all about in the first place. At one stage, the first two Expendables movies were both suggested to be getting PG-13 ratings, before eventually getting given an R in the US. But, as had been forewarned, this time, The Expendables 3 will be a film to, er, take all the family too.

It's been confirmed that the movie has a PG-13 rating in the US, earning its rating for "violence, including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language". Not much language, we'd wager.

The whole idea of The Expendables was supposedly to give us an old school action movie, unconstrained by the demands of modern blockbuster movies. It seems a little depressing that it too has followed the path to PG-13 in the hope of further riches.

We say that fully acknowledging that PG-13 allows a lot more than it once did. But still, from earlier comments it seems as though The Expendables 3 has actively targeted getting a softer rating, rather than this being an organic thing. If they've genuinely put together the film they wanted and it happened to be a PG-13, that's one thing. But to cut off the corners to make it fit a PG-13 box? That's the last thing we thought The Expendables would ever do.

A UK rating has not yet been confirmed. We suspect Lionsgate may go for a 15 over here. If it gets a 12A? Well, that's the path to later Die Hard sequels. Yippee-ki-ay mother f[boom]..

I think you mean "Yippee-ki-aye Melon Farmer!"

I can't believe you said that here you massive Mother Funster!

I'm still giddy as a school girl for this! I didnt think the last one was that violent (compared to the first one) and there wasn't a great deal of bad language was there?
In anycase I dont really look at the rating anymore it seems to mean less and less.

Well, it's officially aimed at school girls now, so you'll probably love it.

Yeah, Probably.

As Nick Meyer once said "What did I know when their was all that popcorn at stake?" in reaction to the studio hinting Spocks resurrection at the end of Wrath of Khan.
But C'mon for us actionfans from the 80's, Having Harrison Ford share cinematic celluiod with Sly, Arnie and company will be great.
Personally as most of the blood was CGI in 1 and 2 I doubt their will really be any difference. I am all for A-Team style shootouts if the younger generation get to
experience the film...

Well, the official version is "Yippee Ki Yay Mister Falcon", I kid you not! It's on YouTube.

Who in the blue hell is Mister Falcon?!?!?!?!

That is a very good question.

Let me guess: A PG-13 movie in cinemas and a Unrated version on Blu-Ray?

Studio Boss "Listen people, we put these old guys back up the screen, gave them another shot and it worked. But now the kids have got hold of there uncles and Dads DVDs and they love it, problem is we want the cash at the box office, any ideas?"
Exec called Frank "PG 13?"
Studio Boss "Frank, that's why we pay you the big bucks!"
Ok I know maybe not true, but how that meeting ran in my head.

Did you fun my wife?

So they fire Willis and Stallone publically blasts him for being greedy on Twitter, then they deliberately make it a PG-13 so as to rake in as much money as possible. 'Disappointed' doesn't even begin to describe my feelings.

This is frustrating news. It goes against everything the franchise stands for.
I'm hoping for a harder cut on Blu Ray.

For some reason, that comment made me laugh a lot just now.

People in my office are looking at me.

I believe he is married to Mrs Falcon.

The only reason for this is that they want more bums in chairs to get more dough.

It really is that simple.

It also really is that annoying.

Ha! I find your wife in the alps!

But what is her maiden name then?

Doesn't bother me. It's not like these are great movies anyway. Fun but forgettable. They don't even begin to touch these guys' old movies. I already posted this elsewhere but if I don't say so Disqus won't let me post it. KamenaYEhaaaaa!

PG13 STUFF, ya fowl mouthed son of a bird.

Harrison wasn't pleased about the PG13. He really put his foot down

If there's a scene of Ford jumping into a fridge, I'm watching this!

Considering the first two Expendables films were absolutely terrible, maybe smoothing the edges off for a broader audience won't prove to be a bad thing.

No doubt a result of the second film under performing.

Your article contradicts itself - it says The Expendables and The Expendables 2 aimed for a PG13 from the start but then didn't get those ratings which is true but then it concludes by saying THE EXPENDABLES 3 goes against what the franchise is about - The only difference with the third movie is that it did get the PG13 that it aimed for.

THE EXPENDABLES 3 doesn't go against what the franchise was meant to be - JAWS is a PG13 movie and that's got some major bloodshed and is a ripping thriller , if you are shallow and unintelligible enough to base the quality of movies on their viewing age rating then that says a lot about you.
