Sony hires writer for The Equalizer 2

The Equalizer

The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington, is set for release in September. And Sony is already looking ahead to The Equalizer 2...

Call it either confidence or common sense - or both if you like - but Sony is already putting the wheels in motion for a sequel to this September's The Equalizer movie.

The new film casts Denzel Washington in the lead, with Chloe Grace Moretz co-starring. Test screenings for the movie, which has been directed by Olympus Has Fallen's Antoine Fuqua, are apparently high, and Sony thus has hired Richard Wenk to start work on a sequel. Wenk wrote the first film, which is, of course, an adaptation of the TV show of the same name.

This is in truth a fairly low cost way for studios to shorten the turnaround between films in a franchise. To order a script and have one in place nice and early, writing it off if necessary should the first film not hit big (as Warner Bros did with Green Lantern 2, on which writing work had begun).

Should The Equalizer score at the box office this autumn, expect The Equalizer 2 to get moving really rather quickly then...

The Wrap.

Even after my first coffee, I still misread the screenwriters last name and almsot snickered. I am more mature than that though.

Isnt Denzel a bit young to be playing an old age vigilante?

He's older than you think. He's going to be 60 this year. He looks so good for that age that he might be a Highlander

Haha really, i didnt even realise, but then Liam Neeson is 64 so hes not the only one who seems to defy the aging process

I'd go and see this as long as they in no way alter the original theme music.
Best TV Theme EVER!

I wish they would set this on Coronation Street, just so I could hear the locals call him Th'equalizer
