Could Rupert Wyatt be directing Denzel Washington in The Equalizer?

When it was first revealed that a big screen take on The Equalizer was being developed towards the end of last year, the reaction to the news seemed really quite warm. It was helped, mind you, by the involvement of Denzel Washington, who was attached to the project. And rumoured to be directing was Drive helmer Nicholas Winding Refn.

As things stand now, one of those two people remains involved. Denzel Washington is still in place as the film's star, but the rumours of Winding Refn's involvement ultimately came to nothing. Still, news has now broken of the person likely to direct the film, as it's been revealed that Rupert Wyatt is in talks for the job.

Wyatt is best known for Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, but it's also worth checking out his underappreciated movie The Escapist. He strikes us a smart choice for The Equalizer.

Production will need to get started on The Equalizer soon, given that a release date for the film has already been announced. It's due in cinemas on April 11th 2014.
